A first article inspection verifies the initial assembled board against released manufacturing data before the remaining production quantity proceeds. It can include component identity and orientation, workmanship, critical dimensions and defined electrical or functional checks.
The exact acceptance items should be agreed in advance. First article approval reduces repeat risk but does not replace ongoing in-process and final inspection.
