The right prototype quantity depends on design maturity, test coverage, destructive testing, certification samples and the number of stakeholders who need units. Many projects begin with a small engineering build, but there is no universal quantity. Plan enough boards to verify function and manufacturing risk without committing the full production volume before open issues are resolved.
