Start with accurate volume forecasts, complete files and a BOM that identifies approved alternatives. Review panel utilization, unnecessary special processes, uncommon materials, overly tight tolerances, component availability and test strategy. Cost reduction should be documented and approved; it should not remove a required inspection, material property or reliability condition without understanding the consequence.
